Sigá y Silente

Sigá y Silente, the new album by Andalusian percussionist Lucas Zegrí and Greek pianist Yiorgos Bereris, is now available. This unique collaboration fuses flamenco, Afro-Cuban rhythms, jazz, and traditional Greek music into a musical journey that goes beyond easy categorization.

Bereris and Zegrí first crossed paths in 2020, never anticipating that their initial encounter would lead to the creation of Sigá y Silente. Speaking a blend of half-English, half-Spanish, and half-Greek, they developed a unique form of communication through music and improvisation, culminating in an album that feels both personal and universal.

Opting for the rare duo format of piano and percussion, they explored new ways to blend their diverse influences, incorporating instruments from different traditions—Cuban batá, Brazilian pandeiro, and Andalusian cajón—to create an intimate and vibrant musical space.

Sigá y Silente reflects the shared musical language we developed after our first meetings in Rotterdam,” says Bereris. “It is an invitation to explore the beauty of cultural dialogue when existing languages or genres act as facilitators.”

The album’s dynamic tracklist also features a remarkable performance by the renowned flamenco singer Blanca La Almendrita, whose emotive and powerful voice lends exceptional depth and authenticity to one of the pieces.

Recorded with the aim of capturing the immediacy and raw energy of their interplay, Sigá y Silente flows effortlessly from the quiet whispers of piano melodies to vibrant percussive beats, offering a listening experience that is both captivating and immersive.
